Green building is the practice of creating structures that are environmentally responsible and energy efficient through the building’s life cycle from site selection, design, construction, maintenance and renovation. Green building is also known as sustainable building. Here at Korey Homes, we build green homes.

Our green homes include a variety of proven energy efficient features that contribute to improved home quality, homeowner comfort and lower energy demand.

1. Effective Insulation
   Properly installed and inspected insulation in floors, walls and attics ensures even temperatures throughout the house, reduced heating and air bills, and increased comfort.
   
   
2. Energy Efficient Windows and Doors
   Energy efficient windows use advanced technology such as protective coating and improved frames to help keep heat in in winter and out during summer. These windows can also block ultraviolet rays that can damage your rugs and furniture. We use Energy Star rated windows from Andersen, Marvin, Pella and Patriot.
   
   
3. Tight Construction and Ducts
   Sealing holes and cracks in the home and in the heating and cooling duct system helps reduce drafts, moisture, dust, pollen and noise. A tightly sealed home is an energy efficient home.
   
   
4. Efficient Heating and Cooling (HVAC) Equipment
   In addition to using less energy to operate, energy efficient air conditioners and furnaces can be quieter and improve the overall comfort of the home.
   
   
5. Efficient Products
   We also use ENERGY STAR appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, and water heaters.

In addition to these basic features that we use in building all of our green homes, we now also install solar hot water heaters, solar attic fans, solar panels, specialized roofing that can resist heat gain, and geothermal heat pumps. While some of these additional features can increase the construction cost by a sizeable amount, they quickly pay for themselves with decreased energy bills. Imagine having the electric company pay you for the energy your house generates beyond what you need!
